It is a small white village tucked away in the Genal Valley, some 40 km from Estepona, reached by winding roads.

Genalguacil is well known as a ‘Museum Town’: Every two years it hosts an international gathering of artists who then exhibit their work permanently in the streets and squares of the village.

On the first Saturday of December the main square of Genaguacil hosts a colourful event where you can buy handicrafts and country products. There will also be live music, a bar with food and other parallel activities.

In addition, visitors can participate in the raffle of a Christmas hamper, taste mulled wine and try some typical dishes of the foreign residents in Genalguacil.

The event will be held on Saturday 7th December from 1 pm to 8 in the main square of the village.

Benalauría is a small white village located in the Serranía de Ronda. Visitors can enjoy for 3 days one of the most important gastronomic events in the region.

Christmas sweets, sausages, cheeses, liqueurs, early harvest extra virgin olive oils and wines are some of the products that can be purchased while enjoying a stroll through the Malaga park, just a few metres from the historic centre and the port.

There will also be several parallel activities such as live cooking demonstrations and live music.

Savour Manilva in Manilva

This coastal town a few kilometres from Estepona on the western Costa del Sol celebrates this gastronomic festival during the long weekend in December.

The town is known as one of the region’s leading producers of muscatel wine.

Over four days, local products can be bought and tasted in the central Plaza de la Vendimia. The dates usually coincide with the lighting of the Christmas lights, so a good atmosphere is guaranteed.

And there is also a wide range of activities for all ages: Manilva wine tasting with cheese and ham, live music performances, guided tastings, children’s workshops, children’s theatre and much more.

Cuevas Bajas is  a municipality in the north of the province of Malaga. It is also known as ‘La Villa Morá’ due to its particular vegetable that made this town famous.

Originating in Asia, the purple carrot arrived a thousand years ago with the Muslim invasion. And in the 21st century it has become an emblem of the municipality.

The first weekend of December every year Cuevas Bajas pays tribute to its carrot with its peculiar colour and flavour. Visitors will able to taste the vegetable prepared in different ways and buy it. In adition, there will be children’s and family workshops, gastronomy, music, and and a market with local products.

Chacina Fair in Benajoán

Benajoán is a little white village situated in the Serranía de Ronda region. The municipality celebrates in December their popular cold meat and sausages festival.

Up to twenty stands offer their handmade products from different municipalities in the region. There you can purchase cold meats and sausages, sweets, breads, preserves, honeys and desserts.

This day is a good opportunity to visit the factories in full production. And take part in the tastings, such as fried pork loin and sun-dried sausages, which are organised in the streets of the village. In addition there will be concerts and a ham cutting competition.

Although it is not a gastronomic event as such, we include it here. The celebration of the Virgen de los Rondeles stands out for its particularity of taking place during the night.

This centuries-old tradition takes during the night on December 12, on the eve of Saint Lucia, starting at 10 pm and where fire takes on a very special role, illuminating the route of a procession.

There is a procession through the streets of the village with handmade torches accompanied by Christmas carols from the pastorals.

The celebration ends with a large bonfire. There everybody will get a nice cup of hot chocolate, slices of bread with oil and garlic – ‘tostones’- and typical sweet fritters.

Migas Day in Torrox

Torrox is a white village situated very close to the Mediterranean sea in the Axarquía region on the eastern Costa del Sol.

The village located at the foot of the sierras of Tejeda and Almijar pays homage to its typical dish, Migas.

Migas is a traditional local dish for farm workers. Its basic are ingredients, oil, garlic, water, semolina flour and salt. Nowadays it is the most popular and typical dish in this village.

This popular gastronomic event, which very year attracts thousands of visitors, is always celebrated on the last Sunday before Christmas.

Visitors will be able to taste the Migas.  And there will also be local wine , as well as ‘ensalada arriera’ (with oranges, tomatoes, potatoes, onions and olives). The tasting takes place from 2 pm onwards in the Llano de la Almazara (upper part of Torrox village). There will also be live music throughout the day at Plaza de la Constitución.

Jubrique is a small village in the Serranía de Ronda in the heart of the Genal Valley. There visitors can participate in the Fiesta del Augardiente. It is a day in honour of the tradition of making brandy in the traditional way from centuries ago when around three quarters of the fields of the village were vineyards.

The locals themselves publicly make the eau-de-vie in their old copper stills, one of which will later be awarded a prize.

Visitors can enjoy stands where they can taste fritters with chocolate and buy local artisan products ant the gastro-artisan market.
