Among the many entertainment options offered by the Costa del Sol is also shopping. Between Torremolinos and Malaga airport is located the mall Plaza Mayor. It is designed like a Mediterranean village and all the Spanish low-cost labels are represented there: Zara, Mango, Promod, Stradivarius, Pull and Bear, Blanco, etc. In this popular mall there are also may bars, cafes und a multiplex cinema with films in English original version.
Or explore the wonderful shopping areas of Malaga’s old town. Almost everything is a pedestrian zone and one can always take a rest one of the many benches in Calle Larios or enjoy a coffee in one of the terraces.
In the newer part of the city center near the station is situated the stylish Shopping center “Larios”. Again, there are also many large and small fashion shops, shoe shops, bars and a great supermarket.
Another way of shopping are the markets. They are called Mercadillos in contrast to the Mercados, which are housed in the market halls and which offer mostly food. They are always worth a visit and the prices for textiles, shoes and costume jewelry are sensationally low.
In almost every Andalusian village or small town there is a large weekly market, which is very popular among the locals, because they often do not want to take the trip in the larger cities to stroll through the boutiques. The market is also a social meeting place and you do not buy any more food and vegetables here, but clothing and fashion accessories. Sometimes you can get hold of a very good bargain, as for instance in Marbella / Puerto Banus (Saturday), Benalmadena (Wednesdays) and Fuengirola on Tuesdays and Sundays.
Our tip: Ask on arrival in your hotel where and when there are “Mercadillos” nearby. Enjoy!
