Nerja is the most popular beach resort on the eastern Costa del Sol in Malaga. This whole area is characterized by less development than the western Costa del Sol, making that this ancient fishing town, which at the time of the Arabs was known for its silk production, has maintained the charm typical of coastal towns and until now has escaped the massive construction.
Although this small town is far more peaceful than their neighbours in the western Costa del Sol, however it has a good tourism offer during the summer months. This area is characterized by steep terrain and small coves, which give it a special charm, plus ensure excellent water quality as it is continuously filtered by the rocks; therefore it is an excellent area for diving. Due to the proximity of high mountains, this area also has a subtropical micro-climate, where are grown tropical plants like avocado or mango.
There is a beautiful promenade through which you can easily access the nearest beaches. The two most famous landmarks of Nerja are the so-called Balcon de Europa, a splendid viewpoint that opens before the Mediterranean sea and the Caves of Nerja. These caves located only a few kilometres from the city contain impressive chambers and the world’s largest stalactite. In these caves also takes place in summer the Festival of the Caves of Nerja with music and dance programs. In short, who wishes to spend their holidays a little apart from the bustle of the western Costa del Sol without sacrificing all the comforts and offers a resort, may find with Nerja a pleasant and charming holiday resort.
