Gastronomic Festivals in Malaga in November
Chestnut Festival in Alcaucín

This gastronomic festival will take you to the Axarquia region on the eastern Costa del Sol. Alcaucín is a white village situated 530 metres above sea level in the foothills of the Sierra Tejeda mountain range.
During the 2nd of November the village invites visitors to its Fiesta de la Castaña (Chestnut Festival) starting at 12 pm in the main square where you can taste chestnuts, sweet potatoes, mantecados (typical biscuits) and a glass of anisette.

Chestnut roasting in Ojén

Ojén is a beautiful white village situated in the Sierra Blanca foothills just about a 20 minutes’ drive from Marbella.
The village celebrates every year on the first Sunday after All Saints’ Day the very popular tradition of chestnut roasting.
Join the villagers during this day, with popular games and of course roasted chestnuts. Theses will be accompanied by brandy, bacon and freshly grilled chorizo. Fiesta of Tourist Singularity.

Rabbit Festival in Parauta

This gastronomic event will take us to the beautiful and green Genal Valley in the west of the province of Malaga.
The white village of Parauta will celebrate its rabbit festival on the 10th of November from 12:30.
Visitors can enjoy popular music and mountain gastronomy with the rabbit being the main ingredient.
Interestingly, each year this traditional dish is cooked differently, with rice, rabbit and vegetables as the main ingredients.
The villagers prepare the products which are distributed free of charge. To liven up the celebration, there is also a popular verbena, traditional music and tasting of typical pastries. A live concert is scheduled for 11 pm.

Must Festival in Atajate

Located in the Serrania de Ronda mountain ranges we find this small village of white houses and Moorish origin.
The peculiarity of Atajate is that it has only 150 inhabitants and is therefore known as the smallest municipality in the province of Malaga.
Nevertheless, its neighbours like to celebrate!
The Fiesta del Mosto is held every year on the last Saturday in November. The festival is held in commemoration of the village’s long winemaking tradition.
The villagers donate must from their own harvest. At midday in the village square there is a tasting of the must of the different villagers, and the participants have to choose which one(s) have been the best.

Chanfaina Day in Totalán

Totalán is another small white village located in the easternmost part of Malaga, called Axarquia.
During the last Sunday in November Totalán celebrates the chanfaina, the typical local dish par excellence and a traditional meal for farmers to replenish their strength.
Chanfaina is made with ingredients such as potatoes, olive oil, vinegar, garlic, breadcrumbs and a variety of spices such as oregano, saffron, pepper, cloves, cumin and bay leaf. It is sometimes topped with sliced meat or black pudding.
Visitors are invited to try this dish free of charge.
As well as tasting this delicious dish, visitors can enjoy exhibitions of farm implements and musical performances by bands, verdiales bands and orchestras.
There is also a street market where you can buy local products such as extra virgin olive oil, fruit, bread, meat and handicrafts.

Chestnut roasting – Marbella

In Marbella, the Day of the Tostón takes place, a day when locals and visitors gather in the countryside to roast chestnuts and share them with anise or aguardiente. There will also be children’s games.

Chestnut Festival in Pujerra

Pujerra is a beautiful white village of only 290 inhabitants situated in the Genal Valley in the Serranía de Ronda region.
The villages Chestnut Festival has its origins in the ancient gatherings held by chestnut growers at the end of the harvest season, which they celebrated with folk dances and bonfires where they baked traditional chestnuts until nightfall.
Programme
Friday 31 October
9 am – Collective breakfast in the Church Square. This will be followed by a band and a parade through the town.
4 pm – Live music, and attendees will be offered a chestnut toast and anise.
7:30 pm – Solemn mass in honour of Our Lady of Fatima, which will be paraded through the town streets.
The festivities will continue in the Church Square at midnight with an orchestral performance.
Saturday 1 November
9 am – Parade, brass band, and the Chestnut Museum open house.
3 pm – Live music and chestnut toast and anise.
5 pm – Gastronomic tasting of various traditional sweets made with chestnuts as the main ingredient.
The festivities will end at midnight.

Ham Festival in Campillos

The Ham Festival will be held on November 9th in Campillos, a small town located in the northwest of the province, in the Guadalteba region.
This 17th edition of the highly popular gastronomic fair will feature more than 50 companies from the pork and food sectors, presenting artisanal pork products.
You can try ham, blood sausage, salami, chorizo, cheese, olive oil, and organic products.
There will also be bar service during the two-day event, which features an extensive cultural program for all ages, including learning how to carve ham, as well as various musical performances.

Moscatel Market in Almáchar

Almáchar is a small, whitewashed village of less than 2,000 inhabitants located in the Axarquía region and part of the Wine and Raisin Route.
Its Moscatel Market is held on the first Sunday of November in the town’s María Zambrano Fairgrounds.
You can taste and purchase local products such as raisins, grapes, and muscatel wine, as well as artisanal products such as cheeses, cured meats, and figs.
The market will be open to the public from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, and the day will be enlivened by Verdiales groups (typical folk music of Malaga region), followed by typical dances at 4:30 pm.

Must Tasting in Cartajima

Cartajima is a small white village of only 230 inhabitants located in the western part of the province in the Genal Valley, in the Serranía de Ronda mountain range.
The Must Tasting takes place on the last Saturday of November. This festival arose almost spontaneously from the meeting of a group of Cartajima residents who decided to give their wines to the people of the municipality to taste.
In the days leading up to the must tasting, more than fifteen residents of the municipality contribute samples of their wines, which compete to be chosen as the best must of the harvest.
The program of activities usually begins around 1 pm with a tasting of both the winning must and the other wines participating in the tasting. The drink is accompanied by two traditional dishes from the municipality’s cuisine.
Various stands also open from midday, offering all kinds of artisanal products. The festivities continue until the early hours of the morning with live music.
