Mijas is one of the largest municipalities in the province of Malaga on the Costa del Sol. Because of this size, the municipality covers both coast and mountain, which is reflected in various urban centres that are very attractive in a different way. Thus on the coast is situated La Cala of Mijas Costa, a modern beach resort in the heart of the Costa del Sol. This former fishing village has been completely transformed into a popular vacation spot with a wide range of hotels, water sports, bars and restaurants.

About 15 minutes inland and about 400 above the sea is located Mijas Pueblo, the “Model Village” of the White Villages in Andalusia, and very popular with tourists due to its location near the coast. Mijas Pueblo is a typical Andalusian village that reflects its ancient Muslim heritage in its labyrinthine layout of its narrow, winding streets and whitewashed houses. As most of these villages, Mijas Pueblo is located in the mountains and offers spectacular views over the Mediterranean.

Such was the charm of the village that it has attracted over recent decades a large number of foreigners who have chosen this place as their new home and nowadays Mijas is a municipality in which live more than 60 different nationalities, which gives the place a cosmopolitan and open ambiance.

A few kilometres from the coast there are also several excellent golf courses offering golfers the possibility to enjoy the sport year round. Due to the high density of first class golf courses on the Costa del Sol and its excellent climate, it is also known as Costa del Golf.
