If you are looking for a ski destination that combines sun, snow and culture, look no further than Sierra Nevada. This ski resort is located in the south of Spain, near the beautiful city of Granada, and offers a unique experience for skiers of all levels.
Why ski in Sierra Nevada?
Sierra Nevada is the highest and most snow-sure ski resort in Spain. It has over 100 km of ski runs, with more than 120 pistes for beginners, intermediates and experts. You can enjoy skiing on slopes that go up to 1,200 metres above sea level, with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and the African coast.
Sierra Nevada also has a modern lift system, a cross-country skiing circuit, a snow-park and recreational areas for non-skiers. You can find plenty of accommodation options at the resort base or nearby villages, as well as restaurants, bars and shops.
But what makes Sierra Nevada really special is its proximity to Granada, one of the most charming cities in Spain. You can easily combine your ski holiday with a visit to the Alhambra Palace, the Cathedral or the Albayzín district. You can also sample the delicious tapas and wine that Granada is famous for.
When to ski in Sierra Nevada?
The ski season in Sierra Nevada usually runs from late November to early May. The best time to ski depends on your preferences and budget.
If you want to enjoy sunny days and mild temperatures, you should go between December and February. However, this is also the peak season when prices are higher and slopes are more crowded.
If you want to avoid crowds and find cheaper deals, you should go between March and April. The weather is still good but there might be less snow on some lower slopes.
If you want to experience spring skiing with warm weather and soft snow conditions (and maybe even some flowers), you should go in May. This is also when some events and festivals take place at the resort.
What else can you do in Sierra Nevada?
Besides skiing or snowboarding on its varied pistes (or off-piste if you are adventurous), there are many other activities that you can do in Sierra Nevada:
