The city is home to more than 30 museums, most of which are within easy walking distance in the historic centre.
Did you know that Picasso was born in Malaga?

His birth house at the beautiful Plaza de la Merced (where you also can find his statue sitting on a bench) is housing a Museum dedicated to him.
Museums in Malaga with free entry
These museums allow visitors free access, either on a permanent basis or on specific dates.
Picasso Museum

The Museo Picasso Málaga exhibits both a permanent collection of works by Pablo Picasso and various temporary collections.
The museum is open daily from 10 am to 8 pm, and admission is €13 (price 2025).
Admission is free for the general public every Sunday during the last two opening hours.
You can also enjoy free admission on the following the anniversary of the opening of the museum (27 October).
Picasso Birthplace Museum

As mentioned above, there is also another museum related to Pablo Picasso. This is his birthplace located in the central Plaza de la Merced. There you can discover aspects of the artist’s life in multiple rooms, as well as temporary exhibitions.
You can visit this museum free of charge on Sundays from 4pm to 8pm.
Museum Carmen Thyssen

The Museo Carmen Thyssen, housed in the 16th century Renaissance palace of Villalón, is one of Malaga’s leading museums. The museum houses some 285 works of Spanish and Andalusian painting from the 19th to the 20th century.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm.
Special summer opening hours (30 June to 15 August): Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm and Tuesday to Thursday from 7 pm to 11 pm.
Special opening hours Malaga Fair: From 16th to 23rd August from 10 am to 3 pm.
24th and 31st December from 10 am to 3 pm. 25th December, 1st and 6th January closed.
General admission is 12 €.
Admission to the museum is free from 30 June to 15 August between 7 pm and 11 pm.
Centre Pompidou Malaga

The Centre Pompidou is situated in the port of Malaga, just a few metres from the historic centre. It hosts a permanent exhibition with several dozen works selected from the collection of the Centre Pompidou Paris through the art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
It also hosts various temporary exhibitions and multidisciplinary programmes.
The Centre Pompidou Malaga celebrates in 2025 10 years of existence.
The museum is open every day except Tuesdays from 9.30 am to 8 pm. General admission is 12 €.
Admission is free on Sundays from 4 pm until closing time.
Museum Revello de Toro

Located in the historic centre of the city, this museum is dedicated to the Malaga portrait and figurative painter Félix Revello de Toro. The museum houses a collection of some 120 works by the artist.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 8pm, and on Sundays from 10am to 2pm.
General admission is €4.
You can visit the museum for free on Sundays.
Russian Museum Collection

The Russian Museum Collection St. Petersburg Malaga is located in the beautiful building of the former Royal Tobacco Factory of Malaga from 1929.
You can visit exhibitions on the history of Russian art and other temporary exhibitions. Currently, since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, these collections are owned by private collectors.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9.30 am to 8 pm.
Closed the 9th and 25th of December,1st and 6th of January. On the 24th and 31st of December, Colección Museo Ruso will open till 3 pm.
General admission to the museum is €4.
Admission is free on Sundays from 4 pm onwards.
Aeronautical Museum

This museum is located next to Malaga Airport. One of the Museum’s buildings was the first passenger terminal of Malaga Airport. When it was built, the whole of the current airport area was used for agricultural purposes. Maybe that’s why it looks like a farmhouse instead of an airport.
In the Aeromuseo you can immerse yourself in more than 5000 square metres of aeronautical history.
It has a permanent and a temporary exhibition, as well as a room with 3 flight simulators: Flight in orbit, Stars Wars fighter ship and flight simulator with augmented reality VR.

The visit is self-guided. The museum does not provide drinks or food. There is a rest area where visitors can eat or drink whatever food or beverages they bring with them.
This museum is open on Tuesdays from 10 am to 8 pm and from Wednesday to Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.
The Museum is open on all public holidays, with the exception of 1 and 6 January, 24, 25 and 31 December.
Entrance and parking inside the museum are free of charge.
The Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle
The Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle are on this list of free museums and monuments on Sundays, from 2 pm onwards access is free.
