Ronda Nature
All the mountain district of Ronda belongs
to the wet Andalusia, and this enhances the variety and distinction
of its landscapes.
This place seems to be there to help us to appreciate nature.
The Sierra de las Nieves Reserve, covering 16.000 forest,
including that distinctive variety of fir known as the Spanish
fir, a true botanical relic from the Terciary Period. Craggy
mountains, chasms, caves and sheer ravines are the dominant
features of this park. The Gesm abyss, for example, is over
1,100 metres deep and is considered to be third deepest in
the world.
To the south are the Sierra Bermeja and the Sierra Crestellina,
a heaven for vultures and near to the charming village of
Casares. These and other nearby sierras and valleys, such
as the Sierra del Algibe and the Valle del Genal are unforgettable
places for cavers, hikers and nature lovers in general.
