Torremolinos is located on the Costa del Sol and is the first resort west of Malaga. It is a tourism-oriented city which was until 1950 a fishing village. It was the first resort in Spain to benefit from the tourism boom that has positively affected the Costa del Sol from the 50’s.

Torremolinos is increasingly popular with families and retirees who travel abroad during the winter in search for sun and a mild climate. The skyline is dominated by tall apartment blocks and high rise hotels. In recent years local authorities have made significant improvements in the city and its image, so that now it has recovered part of the charm of the fishing village it once was.

Walking along the promenade, we can enjoy a good number of beach front bars (called Chiringuitos) selling fried fish, snacks and refreshments; we recommend the seafront promenade in La Carihuela, which is famous for its fresh fish restaurants.

The nightclubs of the city are almost all trendy; there is as well a good number of gay community-oriented clubs. San Miguel Street is a charming street lined with shops and cafes, providing an impression of the old Torremolinos and is definitely worth a walk around.

There are not many museums and national monuments, but less than 10 kilometers is located in the capital, Malaga, with a wide range of museums, monuments and culture.

There is however a water park, a typical family fun place with more than 30 attractions. There is also a nearby equestrian center offering dressage shows, classes and horse riding in the mountains.

There are six main beaches in Torremolinos; the sea promenade is 7 kilometers long. While the beaches west of Torremolinos are the busiest, with hotels, apartments, bars and restaurants, the beaches east of Torremolinos in direction to Malaga airport are quieter. Here we also find the Real Club de Golf de Malaga (the oldest Golf Club in Spain) and a nudist beach.

To the west of Torremolinos is situated the beach area of La Carihuela. La Carihuela is very popular and offers magnificent sea views and some beautiful rock formations, in addition to the old fishing village of La Carihuela, which is a lovely area.

The sea promenade stretches west along wide beaches and continues to Benalmadena Marina. This area is also known for its excellent seafood restaurants and beach bars.

Torremolinos is an ideal place for your vacation, especially if you like the beach and the sea; it is also is well placed to use as a base for exploring Andalucia with your car hire in Malaga; come and enjoy!
