The Costa del Sol in Malaga primarily equals three things: sun, sea and sandy beaches. With more than 320 sunny days a year, the region in southern Spain attracts a large number of visitors. What’s more, Malaga is easily accessible and is served by many holiday flights to Malaga airport.
Among the most popular resorts on the coast are Malaga, Marbella, Nerja, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola or Mijas. This is just a small selection of places, because there are many little towns and villages that have plenty to offer.
The Andalucian villages and the surrounding hinterland of the interior are best explored with a rental car, in order to keep stress and hassle to a bare minimum. The white villages (or “pueblos blancos“) are amongst the trademarks of the region, with their name stemming from the fact that the inhabitants have always painted their facades with white lime.
If the mid-summer beaches sound like they might be a little too busy for you, you should still definitely not be deterred from a holiday on the Costa del Sol. Outside of high season, Malaga is heavenly, with beautiful weather and empty beaches… what more could you want?
The Costa del Sol is also not lacking in sports and leisure activities. With its numerous beaches and excellent harbours the conditions are perfect for many water sports activities, not to mention tennis and, above all, golf for which there some of the best facilities in the whole of Europe. In a radius of 100 km there are 40 fully-equipped golf courses attracting, year after year, the golf elite with high-profile international competitions.
