Raisin Museum in Almachar
Open daily.
The raisin museum is housed in a typical Andalucian Moorish
dwelling in which families lived and worked. The many different
processes throughout the year (pruning, removing shoots, protecting
growing grapes, harvesting etc.)were assigned to each member
of the family according to their age and ability.
The museum has an old fashioned charm of times past, with
original furniture and domestic objects, enveloped by the
sweet aroma of the Moscatel raisin.
Step by step processes, passed down from father to son over
the centuries, and the tools and farming implements are exhibited.

Almachar
Lies 26 kilometres from Malaga and 15 kilometres from the coast at Rincon de la Victoria, at an altitude of 230 metres. The village is located within the area of Axarquia and has a population of 2,100.
Almachar is an Arabic name meaning meadows. The village church
of San Mateo is from the 16th century and combines Gothic,
Renaissance and Mudejar architecture with two internal Baroque
alcoves. The town lies on the scenic Route of the Raisin and
there is a small raisin museum in the village.
Similar to El Borge, the village houses are built on the sides
of a valley. Here it is the ravine of the River Almachar.
The oldest area of the town is at the base of the valley.
