Malaga Feast of de City´s Patron Saints
Saint Cyriacus and Saint Paula, Malaga's patron saints, were canonised in the year 305 AD during the early history of the Christian Church. Although celebrations in their honour have been eclipsed by the pilgrimage held in honour of Our Lady of Victory, the city's other patron saint, the 18 June is still an important local holiday, marked by a religious service held at the Iglesia de los Santos Mártires
After having regained Malaga from the Arabs in 1487, the Catholic Kings wrote to the Pope to inform him of the considerable advances of the Christian faith in the south of Spain. The Pope thanked them for their efforts and proposed that the patron saints of the new city be Saint Cyriacus and Saint Paula.
In 1548, Isabel and Fernanado, Los Reyes Católicos, built a temple in Malaga in honour of these two martyrs. In 1582 the Church declared the 18 June, the anniversary of the patron saints, to be a holiday.
In contrast with other local religious holidays such as La
Romería de Nuestra Señora de la Victoria, this
is a low-key celebration marked by a simple religious service.

This church, built in honour of Malaga's patron saints, San
Ciriaco and Saint Paula, is located in the Martyrs' Sqaure,
near the Church of Cristo de La Salud. It was built in 1491,
following the expulsion of the Moors from Andalusia in a fusion
of gothic and Arabic styles, unique to Southern Spain. The
traditional church service in honour of the city's patron
saints takes place here every year on the 18 June.
