Customs Palace
Today this palace , build in neo-classic style in the 18th century , serves as the headquarters for the regional government.The palace also hosts a smaller exhibition hall.
The New Customs building, planed in 1788 to replace the former Customs established in Door of the Mar, was finished in 1829. A wide building to manage the port traffic. Stand out the interior court and the stout stairs with balustrade of marble.
It was built like the Renaissance Italian palaces.
In this building Kings and princes have settled themselves; it has been a theatre of violent scenes in the revolutionary epochs, and was used as barrack in difficult moments. Nowadays, it is located in the Subdelegation of the Government of the province and gathers in its ground floor an exhibition with works selected of the Fine arts Museum .
Palace of Aduana (Palacio de la Aduana) - designed by Manuel Marin Rodriguez and constructed in the 18th century in neo-classical style. The inner patio and stairways with marble balustrading are impressive.
Near the Alcazaba in the calle de Cervantes the neoclassical lines of the Aduana Palace can be seen. Built in 1788 it became the barracks for the French troops in 1810 and it was these who caused serious damage to the inside of the building. Later it became the tobacco factory and subsequently it housed state offices. In 1922 a fire completely destroyed the interior. Now restored, it presently houses the headquearters of the Civil Government of the province.
